Michelle Obama Will Lead Weekly Story Time Series on Mondays

Sure, the days are blending while in quarantine, but Mondays are still the most blah day of the week. But Michelle Obama is about to change that.

The former First Lady has just proposed that every Monday, she will be live-streaming her very own story time session for children, as schools remain closed and they may be missing out on vital book time.

The series, titled “Mondays With Michelle Obama,” will be held every Monday beginning April 20 through May 11, beginning at 12 p.m. EST. You can view the steam on the PBS Kids’ Facebook page and YouTube channel, or on the Penguin Random House’s Facebook as well.

“As a little kid, I loved to read aloud,” Michelle said in a statement. “And when I became a parent, I found such joy in sharing the magic of storytelling with my own children—and then later, as First Lady, with kids everywhere.”

Michelle will be reading all the favorite classic kid’s books by publishers she’s collaborating with: Penguin Young Readers, Random House Children’s Books and PBS KIDS. The schedule is as follows:

April 20: The Gruffalo, by Julia Donaldson

April 27: There’s a Dragon in Your Book, by Tom Fletcher

May 4: Miss Maple’s Seeds, by Eliza Wheeler

May 11: The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle

“At this time when so many families are under so much stress, I’m excited to give kids a chance to practice their reading and hear some wonderful stories (and to give parents and caretakers a much-need,” Michelle said.

What a great idea to entertain kids during this trying time! Will you be tuning in to Michelle Obama’s story time every Monday for the next month?
