If you’re anything like me, then you know that the two worst things about living on your own for the first time are cooking and cleaning. Sure, you can do what you want, because you have the freedom to, but you should definitely use that freedom wisely. I never realized how much my mom must’ve done around the house constantly to keep us fed and keep the kitchen looking ready for its close-up until I was on my own in my first apartment, eating cereal out of a take-out container because my kitchen was such a disaster. Every time I filled a pot with hot soapy water and left it in the sink, I had to wonder “Who am I lying to? I’m the only one here!” The longer I put it off, the worse it got. As bad as the sink was, full of dishes “totally soaking for later!” I can’t even begin to tell you how bad the stove was.

I can’t be alone in this, right? You boil over a pot of rice and leave the starchy mess burnt on the stove, because hey, you just cooked. Now you’re supposed to deep-clean, too? Honestly, it is amazing to me that anyone keeps on top of these kinds of chores. Imagine my delight, then, in discovering a whole subculture on TikTok, where the name of the game is easy breezy and oh-so-satisfying cleaning.

How genius is this? Yes, it’s called oven cleaner, but I believe it was William Shakespeare who said “A super-effective cleaning product that does all the work for you, by any other name would smell as sweet.” I could be paraphrasing, but I’m just so impressed by this clever use of oven cleaner. As soon as TikTok user therealmom9110 says “you’re just going to leave it here,” I feel my soul breaking free. Okay, that is definitely an exaggeration, but cleaning that feels like procrastinating and that looks really impressive as a before/after picture, is an absolute dream come true for me. It’s even a little motivating in some ways.

I’d never even considered that my baking trays might need a deep-clean until I saw this video, where TikTok user kayteehaas uses the same product as the first video to completely transform their baking trays back to their original sparkling glory.
