Want to hear a startling (and uber-upsetting) statistic? Celebrity marriages are twice as likely to end in divorce when compared to “civilian” marriages. It’s a shocking fact, especially considering the divorce rate is already sitting pretty at around 50%.

To make matters worse, the Marriage Foundation reports that more than half of the stars who married between the years 2000 and 2010 were divorced by 2014. Yikes!

Now, of course, this doesn’t mean that all Hollywood marriages are destined for disaster. In fact, we have covered quite a few relationships over the years that serve as excellent examples for long-lasting courtships.

Our absolute favorite is Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s almost twelve-year marriage. Those two have faced some very real—and very public! —issues, but have managed to always rise above the negativity.

Recently, it came to our attention that we have forgotten to include one of the more iconic relationships in modern Hollywood history—Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick’s. Believe it or not, these super talented stars of stage and screen have been together for over 20 years, quite the feat when you consider the dreary statistics.

Because these two have managed to buck the odds year in and year out, plenty of attention has been paid to this special pair’s relationship. So many people want to know how the duo has managed to stay cool under all that pressure and, lucky for us, they are willing to talk.

How these two stars have made a Hollywood marriage work for them

In a recent interview with Girlboss Radio, Sarah Jessica Parker gifted us with some insight on why her marriage to Broderick has lasted. She says that, of course, the two “annoy” each other from time-to-time, but what makes their relationship so special is that there is more than enough respect to go around.

“I love him and I think he’s brilliant,” the Sex and the City actress gushed. “I’m enormously proud of the person he is. I think the longer you can last, the more invested you just are.”

It seems that for Broderick, the feeling is mutual. In an interview with Meredith Vieira back in 2014, the actor explained that he and his wife’s strong bond is what has helped them go against the odds.

“We really are friends beyond everything else and we talk a lot,” Broderick said. “She’s really funny. She makes me laugh.”

Well, everyone says that humor is an important facet of any relationship—and we guess Matthew Broderick just proved this idea to be true!
