Here’s the Heartbreaking Reason Why Keith Urban Says He Caused the “Implosion” of His Marriage to Nicole Kidman

When it comes to Hollywood couples, we definitely have our favorites. Recently, we told you all about Delta Burke and Gerald McRaney’s against-the-odds marriage, as well as ‘first wives club member’ Jon Bon Jovi and his high school sweetheart, Dorothea Hurley, but our absolute favorite has got to be the power couple that is Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban.

Now, whether or not you are a fan of her dramatic stylings or his country crooner sensibilities, it’s hard to deny that these two have some serious chemistry!

That said, things have not always been easy-breezy for the gorgeous duo; in fact, shortly after they tied the knot, the two dealt with an issue so delicate, many gossip hounds suggested they wouldn’t survive it.

How an addiction battle strengthened this Hollywood couple’s bond

Back in 2006, Nicole Kidman was on top of the world. She was one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood, she had won an Academy Award and had been nominated for another, and most importantly, she had finally mustered the strength needed to move on from her uber-famous ex-husband, Tom Cruise.

2006 was also the year when she married a handsome country sensation by the name of Keith Urban, a fellow Aussie who, despite his clean-cut image, had endured his own share of public struggles.

Back in 1998, Urban completed a treatment program for cocaine and alcohol problems, but after years of being clean and sober, the monster that is addiction reared its ugly head yet again, a fact that brought him to yet another “rock bottom” –just four months after his wedding to Kidman.

Once the big news broke of Kidman’s new husband admitting himself to the Betty Ford Center, the actress, as well as the country singer, took quite a beating in the press.

In a 2016 interview with Rolling Stone, Urban recalls how this stressful time almost meant the end of the then newlyweds.

“I caused the implosion of my fresh marriage,” the country star said. “It survived, but it’s a miracle it did.”

Lucky for the both of them, Urban was able to sober up and get a handle on his addiction upon the complement of his treatment plan. His new wife was right there all along the way—and she still is, more than 11 years later. That’s like 100 years in Hollywood time!

Urban attributes his success to the strong support he had in treatment, but mostly to the other-wordily bond that both he and Kidman share.

“I was spiritually awoken with her,” Urban goes on to say. “And for the first time in my life, I could shake off the shackles of addiction.”

Talk about an inspiring romance! These two certainly prove that, even when faced with the most high-pressure of situations, love can prevail.
