Queen Elizabeth has accomplished something that no other British King of Queen has ever done. She is officially the longest reigning British monarch. This Sunday, February 6, 2022, marks 70 years since she became Queen, and the historic occasion calls for a celebration.

The Queen’s 70 years on the throne will be celebrated all year long in the UK and around the world. While this weekend is certainly a time to celebrate, the biggest celebration will be in June when the UK will celebrate with a 4-day weekend from Thursday June 2nd through Sunday June 5th. This celebration is known as the Platinum Jubilee.

The celebrations will include a variety of activities and events including a baking competition called The Platinum Pudding competition. There will also be a birthday parade for the Queen on June 2nd called Trooping the Colour. The celebration will also include a horse race and a party at the palace where there will be a concert in honor of the Queen.

While there will be many fun events in June, that doesn’t mean that the actual anniversary on February 6th is to be overlooked, but for the Queen, February 6th has a different meaning.

The Queen will be spending the weekend out of the public eye. She will be staying at her Norfolk estate in Sandringham which is where her father, King George VI, died in his sleep on February 6, 1952. She was crowned Queen after his death at just 25 years old. The Queen considers February 6th a day to remember her father.

The Queen will be staying at a part of the Norfolk estate known as Wood Farm, which is where the Queen’s late husband, Prince Philip, spent much of his retirement.
