When it’s time to decide on a Halloween costume, many people choose to buy store bought costumes. This is an easy solution because there are many costumes available to choose from, and often there are costumes for all of the popular characters kids like.

Not everyone likes store bought Halloween costumes. Many people prefer to make the costumes themselves. This doesn’t always involve sewing. More often, it involves putting varies clothing items together to resemble something or someone else. This is just what Katelyn Sutherland did when it was time for her 1-year-old daughter, Jalayne, to go trick-or-treating.

Jalayne dressed up as Queen Elizabeth II for Halloween. The costume, which included a wig, a blue coat, a matching hat, and a string of pearls, was the perfect way for her to go trick-or-treating with her pet Corgis.

After Halloween, Katelyn sent a few pictures of her daughter in costume to the Queen, showing off her daughter’s costume and expressing their shared love for Corgis. The mom, who lives in Ohio, never really expected to get a response back. Then, just after Christmas, she received a letter in the mail.

The letter was dated December 9, 2021, and it was written by the Queen’s lady in waiting, the Hon. Mary Morrison. The official letter included the Windsor Castle insignia at the top. She called the mom’s letter “kind” and the toddler’s costume “splendid.”
