Prince Harry Reveals That He Left Royal Life Because the UK Press Was “Destroying” His Mental Health

Life has changed drastically for Prince Harry in the past year. He went from being a senior member of the royal family to deciding to step away from royal life and relocate to California with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their son Prince Archie. While Meghan probably feels quite at home in California, we can only imagine how much of a change life far from his family must be for Harry.

The Duke and Duchess arrived in California when the COVID-19 lockdown had first started, so they have not had a chance to experience normal life on the west coast. In fact, Harry had not yet had a chance to see the sights in Los Angeles, and The Late Late Show host James Corden decided that needed to change.

Corden decided to interview Harry while showing him around Los Angeles on a tour bus. The two men sat on the top of the bus, and Harry mentioned how he had always thought riding on top of a bus like that sounded like fun, but he had never had the opportunity to do so before.

The interview included hilarious parts, like when they arrived at the house that was used in the TV show “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.” Harry even rapped the lyrics to the theme song. Then there was the part where Harry was drinking tea on top of the bus, and the whole tea cart crashed into him.

Besides being humorous, the interview was also quite serious at times. Harry revealed what stepping down as senior royals means to him and why he decided to do so.

It was never walking away. It was stepping back rather than stepping down. It was a really difficult environment.”

The “difficult environment” he’s talked about is the environment created by the press in the UK. He said that the British press was to blame.

“[The British press] was destroying my mental health. This is toxic. So, I did what any good husband and what any father would do. It’s like I need to get my family out of here. But, we never walked away, and as far as I’m concerned whatever decisions are made on that side, I will never walk away. I will always be contributing, but my life is public service so wherever I am in the world it’s always going to be the same thing.”
