Perfect Partners: Poached Egg and Avocado
Avocadoes and eggs have a lot in common: they’re both high in nutrients like vitamins and folate; they can help lower your levels of bad cholesterol; they help to keep you full and satisfied; and they can both act as bonding agents in baking! Add in their unique and delicious tastes, and it was just a matter of time before somebody like Cooking Light’s Simmer and Boil blog figured out a way to bring the two together without losing what makes each ingredient special. Julia Child’s advice on the perfect poached egg to get this one just right, or follow these basic steps from Cooking Light:
- Bring 2 to 3 inches of water to a simmer in a saucepan.
- Crack an egg in a small bowl, then pour that egg into a sieve and get rid of the excess egg whites. Return the egg back to the original bowl.
- Gently slip the egg into the simmering water. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, then remove from the water.
