People Magazine Reveals Its ‘People of the Year’ for 2020

People magazine has named its 2020 “People of the Year.” Included on the list are Selena Gomez, Regina King, George Clooney and Dr. Anthony Fauci.

The four will be featured as part of the magazine’s year-end double issue. They will be honored with individual covers to celebrate each of their contributions to the world during what can only be described as a challenging year.

Pop singer Selena Gomez has celebrated a blockbuster year. She released a hit album, “Rare,” and hosted a cooking show on HBO Max entitled “Selena + Chef.” Still, her nomination is likely a result of her makeup brand, Rare Beauty. Gomez, who has been candid about her own struggles with anxiety and depression, announced her goal of using the brand to raise $100 million over the next decade to fund mental health initiatives.

Actress Regina King, who won an Emmy earlier this year for her role in “Watchmen,” has been an advocate for amplifying Black voices. She has used her platform to encourage people to vote, highlight marginalized minority communities during the pandemic and speak out against police brutality on Black people.

Fellow advocate George Clooney donated $500,000 this year to the Equal Justice Initiative following the death of George Floyd. Clooney also assisted those impacted by this year’s global pandemic, donating $1 million toward relief efforts in London, Los Angeles and Italy.

Of course, the issue wouldn’t be complete without spotlighting Dr. Anthony Fauci. The nation’s leading expert on infectious disease has guided the country during the COVID-19 crisis, providing up-to-date information on the virus, as well as medical efforts to fight against its spread.
