Eagle-Eyed Fans Have Noticed Meghan Markle Doesn’t Use Her Real Name On the Royal Wedding Invitations
Breaking news: we are less than two months away from what could be the most memorable royal wedding of the new century. (Sorry, Will and Kate!) The one-and-only Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are getting married, and we couldn’t be more excited about the affair!
Ever since the two announced their engagement late last year, the entire world has been buzzing about what their nuptials might look like. Even we have taken part in the speculation! Will Prince William be Prince Harry’s best man? Will Meghan’s mother walk her down the aisle? Will the couple really dine on banana cake at their reception?
Yep, we’re not too proud to admit that we, too, are just as obsessed with the royal couple as everyone else. So, when we caught our first glimpse at the official wedding invitations, you better believe that we broke out our reading glasses and took in EVERY detail.
What we would give to have one of these gorgeous invites hanging from our fridge! But, fantasies aside, take a thorough look at the above invitation and tell us if you notice something strange…
We’re waaaaaiiiiiting…
See it now?
Ok, maybe it wasn’t completely fair of us to assume that you would notice what’s missing. We saw the discrepancy right away—but, like we said, we are just a lit-tle bit obsessed with this upcoming wedding.
The one detail from the official invite that is raising so many eyebrows is the fact that Meghan Markle’s full name isn’t printed. You see, the former actress and soon-to-be royal was actually born Rachel Meghan Markle, but she’s reportedly gone by her middle name for most of her life–a moniker that has obviously worked well for her!
So, it makes perfect sense that whoever designed the beautiful invites would include the name in which the newest royal is most known–but what makes the situation interesting is that one very important person is having none of it.
Do you have a guess as to who that may be?
Yep, Queen Elizabeth II obviously isn’t about this “I go by my middle name” mumbo jumbo. This sentiment quickly became apparent when a note regarding the ceremony was sent to HRH’s Privy Council. She wrote:
I declare My Consent to a Contract of Matrimony between My Most Dearly Beloved Grandson Prince Henry Charles Albert David of Wales and Rachel Meghan Markle.
The folks at Good Housekeeping consulted Grant Harrold, a British etiquette expert about the discrepancy, and he quickly schooled us on the ways of the Queen.
Harrold said that Buckingham Palace is known for doing things “by the book,” so it’s not surprising that they would decide to use Meghan’s (er, Rachel’s) full name. That being said, the couple has much more control over things like invitations, which is why the bride’s chosen name is used there.
Makes perfect sense to us! We wonder if the Queen ever accidentally calls Meghan, “Rachel?” Talk about awkward…
We’d love to hear your thoughts on all things royal wedding! Are you excited for Harry and Meghan’s nuptials? Do you think the couple will outdo Will and Kate? What is your all-time favorite wedding that you have ever attended?
