Meghan Markle Has Reportedly Made a Non-Traditional Choice for the Upcoming Royal Wedding

Participating in the joy and happiness of a wedding celebration is a feeling you don’t forget. As special as it is to witness the event as a guest, those who are in the ceremony all have special roles to play too.

In just a few months, the wedding event of the year will be happening for the royal family. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are getting hitched this spring, and so far, it’s a major topic of discussion. The where, the what, the what-to-wear, and of course, “the who”, are generating buzz.

What’s floating around now on the lips of some are whispers pertaining to who will be walking Meghan down the aisle. As wedding processionals go, many traditions have the bride being accompanied arm-in-arm by her father.

But rumors are swirling that Ms. Markle wants her mother, Doria Ragland, to fulfill the role for her instead. It’s also said that she and Prince Harry want to infuse their own traditions into their wedding ceremony, and so people can expect to see a little bit of the unexpected.

Meghan and her mom are extremely close, and after her parents divorced, she went to live with her. She and her father still continued to spend a lot of time together throughout her childhood. And she’s spoken and written extensively about the loving bond she shares with both parents.

There are so many types of families and cultural customs that exist that weddings are not really cookie cutter events. Anyone can walk the bride down the aisle or she doesn’t have to have an escort at all. You have scenarios of blended families where a step parent can fill those shoes. What about deceased fathers? A brother, uncle, or other close male figure can step in.

In some cultures, it’s customary for both parents to walk the bride (and groom) down the aisle. And there are also brides who were raised primarily by single moms. I’ve been to one wedding where the mother sweetly walked the bride (her only child) down the aisle. With Meghan Markle, it’s her wedding and she can do what she wants. Wouldn’t you?

Though the details are murky as to whether Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle, will attend, he is certainly happy for her and her upcoming marriage. Both parents released a joint statement expressing their excitement about the engagement news that dropped this past November.

As far as traditions go, you’ve got to love how this couple has been dancing to the beat of their own drum already. Meghan’s an unconventional bride-to-be for the royal family, she was the first fiancée to spend Christmas with the Queen, and she and Harry aren’t shy about the PDA.

Therefore, it wouldn’t be too surprising if Meghan’s mother walked her down the aisle. But given the tremendous amount of love she has for both parents, it also wouldn’t be surprising if her father gives her away. We will all just have to wait and see. Click on this short clip to hear more!
