Why Prince William Might Not Be Prince Harry’s Best Man

Good news: we have official confirmation that our beloved Prince Harry will, in fact, tie the knot with American actress Meghan Markle! It’s not exactly earth-shattering news considering rumors have been flying around about the two for a while now, but it is exciting stuff nonetheless.

Of course, as mere commoners, we don’t have all the juicy deets on what to expect from their spring wedding, but with a bit of detective work, we’ve been able to either confirm—or at least surmise!—quite a bit.

We’ve been able to get a good idea of what Meghan’s title will be after she and Harry say their vows, and we’ve even discovered that the two are 14th cousins – awkward, right? – but there’s one wedding detail that has us particularly interested: who will be Harry’s best man.

If you remember, the younger son of Diana and Charles was his brother’s best man in the 2011 royal wedding, but it looks like Harry may not be able to return the favor.

As it turns out, Prince William wasn’t even supposed to HAVE a best man in the first place!

You see, it breaks royal tradition to have a best man— or even a maid of honor, for that matter. That said, Will and Kate decided that they just couldn’t do without having their younger siblings right by their sides at the big event, with Harry being William’s official best man and Pippa being Kate’s maid of honor.

Though the addition of the roles was technically against royal protocol, we have to say that we are quite pleased that the princes went against the grain on this one. As viewers, it was so sweet to watch both brothers at the forefront of that fabulous wedding. Good looking out, boys!

Other royal rules to break

If you are a Royal Family buff, then you know that so many of the “rules” that have been put into place over the years have been broken. Some, like this one, have been relatively trivial, while others have been so scandalous, they’ve ruined the reputations of some family members.

Most recently, Prince Charles has taken on the role of the “rebellious royal.” Since his divorce with Princess Diana and his much-discussed affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles, the next in line to the throne has been a controversial figure, but it’s the rumors surrounding how he’ll rule as king that have kept Brits talking.

For one, sources close to the Royal Family are reporting that Charles has a plan to rein back much of what he considers to be superfluous spending. He reportedly plans to do this by taking away the titles of some of the spouses of more distant royals, a move that would likely be done to appease the public.

In addition, the prince plans to buck royal tradition by transforming Buckingham Palace into a “royal headquarters” instead of a residence. Now, of course, this would all go down when his mother, Queen Elizabeth, passes, but the plans are, apparently, all in the works!

Who knew that there were so many rules these royals should be following? It must be hard to keep them all straight! To learn even more about this potential royal wedding faux pas and see a bunch of dreamy footage from Will and Kate’s nuptials, be sure to watch the video below!

We’d love to hear your take on this royal wedding rule. Do you think Harry will end up choosing William as his best man? Do you like the tradition of having “supporters”? Did you have a traditional wedding party when you tied the knot?
