If you’re looking for a new recipe to try for dinner tonight, how about fried chicken? We know, we know, that doesn’t exactly sound like a “new” recipe, but this one is, actually, it’s “Legendary.”

Recently, John Legend, singer and husband to Chrissy Teigen, shared his simple and delicious (simply delicious?) fried chicken recipe, and now our mouths are watering.

Legend shares that he often acts as sous chef in the kitchen, but when it comes to fried chicken, he gets to take over. After watching him make fried chicken from start to finish, we understand why. He certainly seems to know what he’s doing!

Legend starts his recipe by brining the chicken. This basically means that he soaks the chicken in seasoned water. He says that he likes to brine the chicken overnight, but in the video, he only brines it for three hours. Basically, let it soak as long as you can, but it doesn’t have to be overnight.

After the chicken has soaked for a bit, he’s ready to move on to the next step, preparing the breading.

If you’ve made fried chicken before, you probably know that some recipes call for a two-step breading process. Sometimes it’s necessary to dip the chicken in an egg mixture and then coat the pieces in a flour mixture. Legend keeps it simple by skipping the egg mixture entirely. 

All you have to do to bread your Legendary fried chicken is to mix the flour and seasoning in a bag and put the chicken inside. So easy.

While Legend waits for the chicken to fry, he makes an optional butter sauce that’s both sweet and spicy. He prefers the chicken with this sauce, but his wife prefers it without the sauce. We think it’d be worth trying to find out for ourselves what we prefer. After all, the sauce only has 3 ingredients.

Doesn’t that chicken look delicious? We feel the need to go get a bottle of rosé and try this recipe for ourselves. It certainly looks easy enough, and we love that it’s easier than a lot of other fried chicken recipes.
