In New Unaired Clip, Meghan Markle Opens Up About the Brutal Phone Call With Her Father Before Her Wedding

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sat down with Oprah on Sunday for a bombshell interview about their decision to step away from the royal family.

The pair made major revelations during the conversation centered around racism, tabloid attacks, and mental health issues. While the royals were a focal point of the discussion, notably absent were conversations about Meghan’s family — namely, her father, Thomas Markle

Before her wedding to Harry, there was an unexpected media frenzy surrounding Meghan that had nothing to do with the big day. Instead, news had broken that her father had been working with the press to create staged photos, which he denied to his daughter.

“When we were told by the comms team that this was a story, we called my dad, and I asked him [about staging the photos],” Meghan said. “He said, ‘No, absolutely not.'”

Still, she says she had proof that he not only was an accomplice to the paparazzi but also that he knew they were waiting until just before the nuptials to release the images.

“The tabloids had apparently known [his location] for a month or so and decided to hold until the Sunday before our wedding because they wanted to create drama,” she said.

Meghan says she made a phone call to her father, stating they could help bury the story if he admitted the truth, but that he refused to be transparent with her. He was famously absent from the couple’s royal wedding in 2018.

“Me saying, ‘Full stop, if we use this to protect you, we won’t be able to protect our children one day — we’re talking about your grandchildren,'” she said. “I look at Archie, and I genuinely can’t imagine doing anything to intentionally cause pain to my child. I can’t imagine it. So it’s hard for me to reconcile that.”
