Woman Shows How to Make Show-Stopping Hot Chocolate Bombs for the Holidays
As the weather gets cooler, there’s nothing quite like drinking a hot cup of chocolate by the fire at home. And with the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, it’s not like going to a café run is the best idea, so it’s good to have a DIY hot chocolate recipe to make at home.
Instead of just your standard hot chocolate recipe, however, how about a hot chocolate bomb? This new trend consists of chocolate spheres that are filled with hot chocolate mix and marshmallows. You just pour steamed milk over the top, which melts the bomb into a creamy, delectable gooey hot cocoa with marshmallows on top.
Hot chocolate bombs are just as tasty as they sound. And even though they may sound complicated, they’re not at all hard to make—especially if you follow a recipe with three simple ingredients from Annie Campbell at Allrecipes.
This particular recipe calls for just chocolate, milk and mini marshmallows. That’s it! You do need a chocolate mold, but you can substitute that with an ice cube mold too.
First things first: Simply melt your chocolate. Annie uses both milk and dark chocolate, which makes the hot chocolate extra rich, but feel free t use whatever variety you’d like. Once it’s melted, you put it in your molds, which hen chill in the refrigerator for about a half an hour.
The hardest part about this recipe. Is removing the hardened chocolate from the molds, but hey, if your chocolate bomb cracks, just patch it back together with the remaining chocolate from your melted batch (or, you know, eat it).
Once those are out, you can fill it with hot cocoa mix and marshmallows—or, think outside the box with different kinds of toppings, from M&Ms to sprinkles and more. Seal up your bombs with more chocolate and voila! It’s ready to place in a mug.
Now comes the fun part: Pouring your steamed milk over the bomb. The chocolate melts into a delectable creamy substance, erupting your marshmallows or other toppings, and making the perfect, sweet beverage to enjoy this winter. They also make a lovely holiday gift!
Check out the video below, where Annie make these step by step, plus offer tips and tricks along the way. You’re going to drool at the finished product!
