Hooters Forced to Backtrack After Employees Go Viral For Complaining About ‘Disturbing’ New Uniforms

Everyone knows the what the restaurant Hooters is. The very first Hooters opened in 1983. It’s since grown to 420 Hooters restaurants in 42 states and 29 countries. And it’s probably the only chain that’s more famous for its servers than its food!

Though they do serve some infamous chicken wings, Hooters is wildly known for its female waitresses. They’re usually dressed in a their iconic white top with orange writing and logo, and black short shorts.

The outfits have just become part of what makes Hooters Hooters. And most people enjoy them. However, Hooters decided to give its uniform a bit of a upgrade. Or maybe it was a downgrade?

The new uniform consists of shorts even shorter than the original pair. They’re so short they basically look like underwear. And because of that, it’s gained quite a bit of controversy from the women who have to wear them, as well as patrons and onlookers in general.

Check out the differences between the old and new shorts!

Ths isn’t the first negative speak of the shorts on social media. Many Hooters workers have been posting stories to their TikToks to show just how short the shorts are—and just how unhappy they were about the change.

“Love my job but don’t love wearing undies to work,” one worker said.

“Soooo hooters got new panties. I mean shorts,” another retorted.

Additionally, people on social media tended to sympathize with what the women were going through.

“I was told private corporations can do what they want, and that employment isn’t a right. Seems fair to me,: someone wrote.

“Has anyone ever sued Hooters for discriminatory hiring practices? I’d hazard a guess there are no male or trans waitstaff. And, if there are, how do they manage wearing the uniforms?” someone else commented.

The shorts were such an issue that Hooters issued a statement about it. They even backtracked with their original words and said that it was up to the women to choose which type of shorts they wanted to wear, and it wasn’t going to be required.

“As we continue to listen and update the image of the Hooters Girls, we are clarifying that they have the option to choose from traditional uniforms or the new ones,” the company aid in an Image Policy Statement, “They can determine which style of shorts best fits their body style and personal image.”

Well, at least they can choose! What do you think about the outfit change at Hooters? What would you do if you were forced to wear something like that?
