Gwyneth Paltrow Opens Up About the Lingering COVID-19 Symptoms She’s Still Struggling With

Numerous celebrities have come forward to openly talk about their experiences with COVID-19. Early on in the pandemic, we realized that none of us were safe from COVID-19 when Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson announced that they had caught the novel coronavirus.

More recently, Dwayne Johnson and Ellen DeGeneres have both talked about their experiences with COVID, explaining how they found out they had the virus and how they got the virus.

Now, Gwyneth Paltrow has shared with the world via her website Goop that she too had COVID-19. She wrote that she “had COVID early on” so we’re not sure exactly when she had it, but early in 2020 is probably a safe bet. It would be easy to assume that Paltrow was feeling completely better by now, but it turns out that she had some lingering symptoms such as “long-tail fatigue and brain fog.”

Fast forward to January 2021, and Paltrow decided that she needed to make some big changes if she wanted to finally get rid of these lingering COVID symptoms. She turned to a functional medicine practitioner named Dr. Will Cole. He looked at Paltrow’s lab results and then helped her make some dietary changes that seem to have her feeling a lot better.

Paltrow explained, “we’ve been doing a version of a protocol he outlines in his forthcoming book, Intuitive Fasting. It’s keto and plant-based but flexible (I’ve been having fish and a few other meats), and I fast until 11 a.m. every day.” She seems to hope that it’s something she can stick with long-term since it is flexible; however, it means giving up sugar and alcohol.

Paltrow shared that in order to stick to her new diet, she has “been cooking a lot, and some of it is really delicious.” She shared examples of a couple different meals she has made, including “scallops with crispy capers and sage” and “asparagus with bacon vinaigrette.” Any diet that includes a bacon vinaigrette can’t be too bad!

In order to improve her gut health, she has also been taking a variety of supplements such as selenium, zinc, fish oil, B vitamins, vitamin D3, vitamin C and resveratrol.

Paltrow says that besides helping manage her lingering COVID symptoms, another positive side-effect of her diet changes is that her skin has improved. She said people even mention how great her skin looks on Zoom. She added, “Let’s make 2021 the year of never needing makeup, people!”

Do you know anyone who has had lingering COVID-19 symptoms? Does it surprise you to learn that Paltrow had COVID-19 “early on” but is still experiencing symptoms?
