How to Make a Super Flexible Homemade Fried Rice

We’ve always loved food hacks, but now that we’re working with a quarantine kitchen, we need food hacks more than ever.

First, we need easy recipes that our kids will actually eat. Second, we’re trying to limit our trips to the grocery store, so we don’t always have a lot of ingredients on hand at any given time. Recipes where we can substitute what we have and recipes that require just a few pantry staples are very helpful.

Can you relate? Jamie Oliver can.

Oliver has already shared a couple brilliant recipes that are very easy to make at home in a kitchen that’s not fully stocked with supplies. One recipe is a 2-ingredient pasta recipe that actually looks fancy. In another video, he shows us how he gets his kids to eat their vegetables, and you can basically use whatever vegetables you happen to have on hand.

Now, Oliver is at it again with an easy recipe for Homemade Egg Fried Rice. Watch the video below to see how easy it is to recreate this delicious meal in your own home.

We love that Oliver mentions different ingredient substitution options throughout the video. We also love seeing Oliver’s family chow down on the fried rice at the end of the video. It’s great to see them truly enjoy the simple dish.

Apparently, we’re not the only ones loving the at-home style of Oliver’s quarantine cooking videos. One viewer wrote, “When they all eat together, that’s my favorite part.” Another comment reads, “This is awesome.  The rustic feeling of your wife filming while you cook is so inspiring.”

I showed this video to my kids, and now they want to make fried rice. We were also in awe of that “egg pancake” Oliver pulled out of the frying pan. That will be fun to recreate. Now to raid the pantry and refrigerator to see what ingredients we have on hand.

Are you going to try Oliver’s method of making fried rice in your home? What meat and vegetables will you use?
