The First Look at the ‘Downton Abbey’ Movie Posters Has Show Fans Excited

Fans of Downton Abbey, listen up because some seriously big news just dropped about the cult show. Nearly four years after the show ran its insanely-emotional finale episode, the cast and crew have gotten back together to film a movie! Nope, we’re not pulling your leg; it’s really happening.

If you’re a die-hard fan of the series, you likely first heard about the revelation when an announcement was made on the show’s Twitter page back in August. That said, things have been relatively quiet ever since then, which made some fans–us included–a bit nervous about the project. As it turns out, though, there was nothing to worry about because the movie now has a theatrical official release date of September 20th.

A trailer, which dropped earlier this month at CinemaCon, doesn’t reveal too much about the film, but we have learned some pretty crucial details about its setting:

  • It takes place in 1927, just one year after the show’s end
  • The beleaguered Crawley family is hurriedly making preparations to host King George V and Queen Mary at their infamous estate
  • Beloved character, retired head butler, Carson, will be returning to aid in the arrangements of this big event

All we can say is–Eeeeeeeeeeeeee! After the series finale, we kind of got the feeling that there might be something in the works, but after nearly four years of silence, we had pretty much lost hope. It’s so good to hear that we will have the opportunity to get a peek into these famed characters’ lives once again.

In addition to the CinemaCon announcement, the Downton Abbey official Twitter page has recently been filled with exclusive sneak peeks of what is to come.

Take a look at these gorgeous posters which, if we’re being totally honest with you, would look pret-ty dang good hung up on our living room wall. Hey, if we can’t actually *live* in Downton Abbey–or anything that resembles it for that matter–we may as well adorn our walls with the fantasy!

As mentioned, a trailer was also released, which, although it doesn’t reveal *too* much, does give us plenty to dream up until the film hit theatres.

As you can see, some familiar faces will be part of the Downton Abbey movie, including favorites Maggie Smith, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Penelope Wilton, and Hugh Bonneville.

Yep, folks, the crew is coming back together, and, as you’ve probably noted by now, we couldn’t be any more thrilled to hear it!

Now that you’ve gotten the exclusive info on the Downton Abbey movie, we’d love to hear your take! Are you a fan of the show? If so, do you plan on seeing the movie in theatres? Based on the trailer, do you have any big predictions?
