Chip and Joanna Gaines Announce Exciting Plans for a New Media Venture

If you miss the show “Fixer Upper” and just can’t quite get your Chip and Joanna Gaines fix from their magazine, Jo’s book or reruns of the show, you can breathe a sigh of relief.

No, “Fixer Upper” is not coming back, but after stepping away from the show that made them famous, Chip and Jo are taking on a new project that will have them back on your TV screens with fresh content. In fact, you’ll probably get to know them in a whole new way.

Chip says that after “Fixer Upper” ended, everyone was calling them wanting to offer them a new TV deal. They fielded several offers before sitting down with Discovery CEO David Zaslav.

Zaslav was interested in the couple because “They have real views and opinions on bringing up children, on cooking, on diet, on faith, on education, on design. They have a lot to say.”

According to USA Today, this time, Chip and Jo won’t just be taking on a renovation and design show. Oh, no. They will be taking on an entire new cable network that will replace the current DIY network.

Chip and Jo will have their own show on the new network, but they will also get to tell other people’s stories in the many other original series that will air on the network. The couple will serve as chief creative officers and minority stakeholders for the network.

Allison Page is currently the president of HGTV, but she will be changing her role to run the new network. She says that while the network will have design shows, that will just be a small part of it. “We’ll have stories about family and community, food, garden, of course design, wellness, entrepreneurialism.”

Chip told USA Today that, “Jo and I are going to be able to tell more of our life stories…as opposed to it being a very narrow vein in our universe, which is obviously construction and design and the things we do for a living, for us we feel like there’s a more holistic story to be told here, and that’s what we’re going to focus on.”

Joanna added, “It felt to us a lot like what we do love with the magazine, but on a different playing field.”

Besides the network, there will also be an app and a website where content can be streamed. The channel is set to launch sometime in the summer of 2020.
