Demi Moore recently embarked on a new project – collaborating on a swimwear line. This is the actress’s first apparel collaboration, and she feels quite passionate about it.

Moore collaborated with Andie, a swimwear brand whose goal is “to make swimsuit shopping a breeze with stylish staples engineered for modern life.”

What Moore brought to the table was the desire to help create fashionable swimwear that older women would love to wear. She told PEOPLE, “For me, a big part about what was inspiring about this Andie collection was thinking about the things that women feel sensitive about, whether it’s their tummy or other areas of the body.” She added, “They don’t want to look matronly or not feel sexy or desirable. That was really something in my own mind, which is changing this idea that we become less desirable as we get older.”

Moore worked on the collaboration with Michelle Copelman, Andie’s Vice President of Brand and Design. Copelman described the collaboration as “exciting.” She explained, “Demi graciously not only opened up her closet, but also her home, and in the end, this collection is everything that we were trying to accomplish. The fabrics are a little bit elevated. Some of the swimsuits are lined in the power mesh that’s meant to sort of hold a woman in a little bit more and make her feel secure. There is a feminine, sweet, flirty whimsical vibe that carries through throughout the entire collection.”

While Moore pulled from her love for vintage style when it comes to swimwear, she was also conscious that not everyone shares her preferences. She was also influenced by her daughters’ swimwear preferences. She explained that her daughters were “inspirations” especially when it came to designing bikini bottoms. She said, “I like to wear my bottoms very more low cut, and all of my daughters much prefer a very high cut.” As a result, “We tried to create a bottom that could be worn both ways.”

Moore posed in her swimwear designs during a photoshoot in the French Riviera. She admitted that she felt “extremely vulnerable” doing a swimwear shoot. She explained, “I probably fit into the category that has not been the most confident about my body.” She added that the crew was very supportive, and she hopes the swimwear line “makes women feel confident.” After all, the goal with the collaboration was to create swimwear that makes women feel “good and playful and sexy that is also creating security and confidence and still has style.”

The Demi Moore x Andie collection contains a range of swimwear including one-pieces and bikinis in sizes from 0 to 26.
