‘Full House’ Star Dave Coulier Opens Up About His Struggle With Alcohol

Sometimes people think alcohol is required in order to have a good time. They think it makes them funnier, happier, and the life of the party. Sometimes they may think they should cut back on drinking but worry that if they do life wouldn’t be as much fun. Then they hit a point that makes them decide to quit drinking once and for all. Dave Coulier is one of those people.

Many people know Coulier best as the character Joey Gladstone on “Full House.” He was the lovable comic who helped raise his best friend’s daughters. And he loved his tag line “cut it out.”

In real life, Coulier had a love hate relationship with alcohol. The relationship was that he loved alcohol, but as he recently explained on Instagram, “it didn’t love me back.”

In 2020, Coulier made the decision to quit drinking. The decision came after he face-planted while drunk and banged up his face on some stone stairs. It was at that point that he knew he couldn’t keep drinking. He wrote, “I decided to make a decision for my own well-being, my family and for those around me who I love so dearly.”

He gave up alcohol for good, but it wasn’t easy. He added, “The mental and physical withdrawal were big challenges for me.”

Over two years later, Coulier now knows that he doesn’t need alcohol to have a good time, to make people laugh, or to be the life of the party. He wrote, “The psychological and physical transformation has been amazing. The sky is more blue, my heart is no longer closed, and I enjoy making people laugh until they fall down more than ever before.”
