Bruce Willis’ Wife Opens Up About the ‘Toll’ That Caring For Family Has Had On Her Mental Health
On March 30, 2022, Demi Moore shared some sad news about her ex-husband, Bruce Willis. She explained that he would officially be retiring from acting because he had been diagnosed with aphasia. She explained that his condition made life “challenging” for their family, but they planned to do their best to “live it up.” The letter was signed by Moore, Willis’ current wife, Emma Heming Willis, and Willis’ children with both Moore and Heming Willis.
Heming Willis recently spoke to The Bump and explained that her husband’s condition definitely does make life more challenging. Yet, she doesn’t want to be called a “heroine” for taking care of him.
Willis’ wife explained that she has made sacrifices for her family that have had a negative impact on her own mental health, and she definitely doesn’t think that’s heroic. She explained, “I put my family’s needs above my own, which I’ve found doesn’t make me any kind of heroine.” She added, “And I wasn’t being helpful to anyone in my family. Someone told me, not long ago, that when you take too close care of someone, you end up not taking care of yourself. That stopped me in my tracks and really made me react.”
Heming Willis has made small changes to try to take care of herself while taking care of others. She explained that she no longer neglects her “basic needs.” She said that it’s important to “find something that makes you feel good.”

Willis and Heming Willis have been married since 2009. Moore even attended the wedding. Ten years later, Willis and Heming Willis renewed their wedding vows. Besides taking care of her husband, Heming Willis is also raising their two children, 10-year-old Mabel Ray and 8-year-old Evelyn Penn.
