She Thinks She’s Baking A Cake For A New Customer — Until She Sees The Man Who’s Picking It Up

Childhood is hard enough without having to fight an illness like cancer. We often think that bullies and peer pressure are a big deal, and they are, but imagine dealing with all of that along with fighting for your life.

Mary Pat was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) when she was just 6 years old. According to CureSearch, ALL “is cancer of the blood that starts in the bone marrow and spreads to the bloodstream.” It is the most common type of cancer in children.

For two years, Mary Pat underwent treatments until she was finally in remission, but at the age of 9, her cancer came back. She had to go through another 2.5 years of treatments, but then she was finally cancer free.

Mary Pat went on to graduate from high school and college, but one year around Christmas she thought she should probably get checked out just to make sure the cancer was still gone. She went to the doctor and was sent to the hospital. The cancer had some back after about 10 years.

Now, Mary Pat lives at home with her parents while she continues to fight for her life. She has two brothers who no longer live at home, and she misses them both terribly. When they’re around they help distract her. One brother is married and in the army. Her other brother is in college.

Mary Pat’s brothers both love her and wanted to do something nice to surprise her. Mary Pat thought that she was visiting Oakmont Bakery to help make a cake for a 6-year-old girl with cancer. She was excited to make the birthday cake and hopefully bring a smile to the little girl’s face. She had no idea that it was all a setup and that her brothers were going to surprise her with a trip to Walt Disney World.

Watch the video below to hear more about Mary Pat’s story and to see her reaction when she sees her brother walk through the door.

We love how big Mary Pat’s heart is. She was so excited to do something nice for someone else. She just wanted to make a little girl smile. The whole time, her family was doing something nice for her to help make her smile. We hope they had a wonderful time at Walt Disney World.

Do you know anyone with ALL? Have you ever been surprised like Mary Pat’s brothers surprised her?
