Was the Royal Baby Named After 3 Iconic Harry Potter Characters?

Can you believe the newest little royal baby is already more than a month old? Prince Louis Arthur Charles made his big debut into the world when he was born on April 23 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington. He came in at 8 pounds 7 ounces of royal cuteness.

The proud parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, stepped out of the hospital to introduce the little one to the public just hours after he was born, but they didn’t announce his name for a few days after that. And that kind of drove everyone crazy!

In the few days between letting the world know, people were actually placing bets on what the little tyke’s name would be. The name Mary got the highest number of bets if it was a girl, and the names Arthur and Albert were tied for baby boy names.

As we know, the baby’s name is Louis Arthur Charles—so they were somewhat right about using the name Arthur (at least for a middle name). They had guessed that particular name because Prince Arthur was known as the ‘Prince of Whales’ at the latter end of the 15th-century, and so experts figured the royal family would try to connect their child’s name to royal history. So Arthur was a strong guess.

Once the name emerged, royal experts concluded there is indeed some historical significant to the name—and determined that the entire name was a commination of the following royal figures: Lord Louis Mountbatten (a British Royal Navy officer and statesman), King Arthur, and Prince Charles.

That makes total sense! However, recently, a new theory emerged about why the royal family chose Louis Charles Arthur as the baby’s moniker—and it’s pretty awesome. You’ll especially enjoy the new theory if you’re a Harry Potter fan. That’s right; people are thinking the name came from characters from this series.

The theory emerged after the official Twitter account for J.K. Rowling’s Pottermore tweeted: “Louis Arthur Charles, you were named after three iconic Weasleys,” which references a line that Harry Potter said to his son in the last Harry Potter book.

Holy moly! How did we not see this before? The little prince shares a name with three members of the prominent Weasley family! Allow us to explain:

Arthur = the name of the patriarch of the Weasley family
Charlie = the second oldest, and the onne who spends most his time in the books working with dragons in Romania
Louis = the youngest child of Bill and Fleur Weasley

Want to hear something even funnier? Bill Weasley’s full first name is actually William. Prince William anyone? This just makes the connection with Prince William his third born even more probable! Plus, we know the two are big fans of the series—who remembers when they and Prince Harry opened the Harry Potter Warner Bros. studios to the public in 2013?

All right, all right. So even we admit, it’s a bit of a stretch that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge named their third child after a fictional novel, but hey, we still got a kick out of it! And we’re not the only ones—the tweet was liked more than 15,000 times.

We totally think the Weasley family would approve if they really named their son after the series. What do you think? Do you think it crossed their mind when they were naming their son?
