Wanda Sykes Shares Her Account Of What Went Down After The Oscars

After the Oscars, Wanda Sykes sat down for an interview with Ellen DeGeneres on her show, “The Ellen Show.” As is common with daytime talk shows, the interview was filmed long before it aired. The episode has finally aired, and now we know Sykes’ take on the incident that happened between Will Smith and Chris Rock at the Oscars.

In case you missed it, Smith slapped Rock in the face and then cursed at him all because Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair. Sykes, who was one of three Oscar hosts, was backstage when the slap happened. She had introduced Rock before he walked on stage, and she describes him as one of her friends.

Sykes told Ellen that after introducing Rock, she went back to her trailer to get changed into her next outfit, but she hurried because she wanted to watch Rock from inside the Dolby Theater where the Oscars were held. Between the time she left the trailer and the time she made it back inside the theater, the slap had already happened, and she saw Smith walking back to his seat.

Skyes was confused about what happened at first, but then someone showed her a replay on a monitor backstage. She felt sick, but the show must go on.

Later that night, Skyes ran into Rock at an after party, and she said that he apologized to her. She was blown away that he would apologize to her. Why on Earth would he feel the need to apologize?

Watch the video below to find out why Rock apologized to Skyes and to hear more of her stories about what happened at the Oscars.

Do you think Smith should have been escorted out of the Dolby Theater after he slapped Rock? Why do you think he wasn’t? Do you think he should have his Oscar taken away?
