Couples Are Throwing Vasectomy Parties to Celebrate Being Done Having Kids

When you first decide to have children, it’s a huge decision. What should we name him or her? What do you think they will look like? Where will our first vacation of three be? It’s a giddy time for sure.

But after your second, third, tenth however many—there’s a point where you’re just done. You couldn’t possibly imagine raising another baby, let alone another teenager. The thought perhaps is so terrifying for some that they may decide that having a vasectomy is the right choice for their family.

A vasectomy, if you don’t know, is a procedure that a man undergoes that blocks or cuts each vas deferens tube, keeping sperm out of semen, making it nearly impossible to ever get pregnant again.

It’s a pretty big procedure—and decision—for both veteran moms and dads, and one that most don’t take lightly.

Well, except some.

Some parents are so overjoyed about the idea of never having to have a child again that they actually have started to throw real live parties for it. And it’s honestly kind of hilarious.

It makes sense—you throw party for when you’re having a baby (either a baby shower or gender reveal party), so why not celebrate being done with them too? It seems like a bit of an underrated milestone if you ask us…or some of these women who’ve done it.

One of the first women to think of the idea is named Leah Randall. She threw her husband one of the most festive vasectomy celebrations we’ve ever seen. She even got her kids involved who donned shirts that said “Swim team survivor.” Her husband’s shirt was perfect for the occasion too, stating, “The swim team may have been cut but the coach will never retire!” She also baked a cake that with the clever saying “Snip snip hooray!” on it.

“I saw the idea a couple of years ago and thought it was fantastic!” Leah said. “I wanted to make it a celebration for him since he’s taking one for the team and I was thankful.”

She posted everything on Facebook, which has racked up more than 42,000 shares, with positive comments from both moms and dads about how brilliant the idea was.

Kimberly Hemperly is another wife who couldn’t wait to celebrate her husband Jason’s vasectomy. At the party, she provided a wide assortment of genital-related snacks—from Ding Dongs to beef jerky, meatballs and mini sausages (use your imagination). Her cake read “snip snip” on top and a picture of a tombstone for the swimmers that were killed off. She even had the perfect name for the party: “Balls voyage.” Her post was shared 44,000 times because duh.

“We feel like two is plenty for us. We were lucky enough to be blessed with one of each and we know sometimes that isn’t always the case,” she said.

More and more people are starting to jump on the trend. Just search #vasectomyparty on social media to find even more clever vasectomy parties (and inspiration if you ever want to throw one!).

Sure it’s a bit unethical, but hilarious nonetheless. What do you think of the idea of vasectomy parties? Would you ever throw your spouse one?
