Prince Harry Has Taken on a New Job at a Silicone Valley Startup

Prince Harry is no longer a working member of the royal family, but that definitely doesn’t mean he’s not working. Since relocating his family to Santa Barbara, California, the Duke of Sussex has taken on several new business ventures. He and his wife, Meghan Markle, have deals at Spotify and Netflix. Now, the Duke has a new role.

A startup in Silicone Valley called BetterUp has hired Prince Harry to be their Chief Impact Officer. The company officially announced the news by adding an introduction on their website on March 23, 2021.

The CEO of BetterUp, Alex Robichaux, started the introduction by explaining the mission of BetterUp.

We wanted to make a positive impact in the world by empowering millions of people to live their lives with greater clarity, purpose, and passion.”

Then, he went on to introduce their new Chief Impact Officer.

To meet this opportunity, it is with great pleasure and excitement that we welcome our first Chief Impact Officer: Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex. We are energized by his model of inspiration and impact through action. As a true citizen of the world, he has dedicated his life’s work to bringing attention to the diverse needs of people everywhere and advocating for mental health initiatives: from founding the Invictus Games, a platform for service personnel to use sport as part of their psychological and physical rehabilitation, to launching Sentebale, which supports the mental health and wellbeing of young people affected by HIV in Lesotho and Botswana.”

After Robichaux’s introduction, Prince Harry shared why he has taken on this new role.

When I first met Alexi, we instantly recognised a shared passion for helping others realise their full potential. As our conversations continued, it became even more clear that we hold a similar philosophy on mental health: that we must proactively take care of our minds.”

Harry went on to share his goals. As Chief Impact Officer, he is going to focus on 4 things: “Driving advocacy and awareness for mental fitness…Guiding BetterUp’s social mission and impact…Influencing the vision of BetterUp’s platform, community, and member experience…Expanding BetterUp’s global community.”

Robichaux did not share how Prince Harry will be compensated for this new role, but once it is safe, the Duke will probably be sending a chunk of his time at BetterUp’s headquarters in San Francisco.

Does it surprise you that Prince Harry has taken on a new job? How do you think he will split his time between Santa Barbara and San Francisco?
