Parent Attacks Teacher Over Mask Dispute on the First Day of School in a California District

As kids go to school on their first day of the new school year, many students and teachers are wearing face masks. While it is not required in all areas for students to wear face masks, masks are currently required to be worn by students and teachers at schools in California. Unfortunately, not everyone is happy about it.

On the first day of school, when one dad went to pick up his daughter from school, he got really upset when he saw his daughter leave school wearing a face mask. This parent doesn’t think students should have to wear face masks at school, and he told the principal his thoughts.

The parent and principal were in a pretty heated argument when a nearby teacher decided to step in and try to protect the principal. Unfortunately, the verbal argument turned to a physical argument. Watch the video below for more details.

Superintendent Torie Gibson sent a letter to parents later that day after the incident occurred at school. She wrote, “Unfortunately, a parent took it upon himself to verbally assault a principal that led to a serious physical altercation between him and a teacher as the teacher intended to protect the principal.” She added that “assaulting a staff member will never be tolerated on any school campus.”

Gibson told KCRA that the teacher had “lacerations on his face, some bruising on his a face and a pretty good knot on the back of his head.”

We do not know if the parent was injured in the fight or not, but the parent was banned from the school’s campus.

We can’t help but realize that this fight took place in front of the parent’s daughter and possibly other kids at the school. We can’t imagine how rattled this might have made the students feel to witness.

In the letter to parents, Gibson explained that the school district is not making the face mask rules. She wrote, “We are not the ones making the rules/mandates. We are the ones required to follow/enforce them if we want to keep our doors open and students at school five days a week.”

Does it surprise you that a parents would get physically violent over a mask mandate? Are students and teachers required to wear face masks at school where you live? Do you think students and teachers should be required to wear face masks?
