Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s son, Archie, is now two years old. But when she was still breastfeeding him, and in the throughs of new motherhood, among the pressures of being a member of the royal family, Meghan Markle felt like she was going to burst at the seams.

In a famous interview with TV’s Tom Bradby at the time, he asked her if she was okay. With an emotional look on her face, she responded to him: “Thank you for asking because not many people have asked if I’m okay, but it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes.”

“Any woman, especially when they’re pregnant, you’re really vulnerable. So, that was made really challenging. And, then when you have a newborn, and especially as a woman, it’s a lot. So, you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom or trying to be a newlywed,” Meghan said at the time.

Recently, Meghan and Harry appeared on the Teenager Therapy podcast, a mental health podcast, where three students from Loara High School in Anaheim, California interviewed them, and where Meghan reflected on how she felt during that exact interview.

“Isn’t that funny, it was about a year ago that someone asked me that. We were on a tour in South Africa and on the last day of the tour, man I was tired. I was just about to give Archie a bath… I was exhausted,” she said of her words of the past.

“It was a lot,” she continued. “But, at the very end, the journalist asked me, ‘Are you okay?’ And I didn’t realize that my answer would receive such an interest from around the world. Because I said well, thanks people haven’t really asked me if I’m okay. I didn’t think about that answer. I just answered honestly because I was in a moment of vulnerability, because I was tired, because there was no presentation. It was just, here’s where I am, I’m a mom who’s with a four-and-a-half month old baby and we are tired. But I think it speaks to the fact that the reason it resonated with people is because everyone wants to be asked if they’re okay.”

If you’re a mom, you can probably relate. And since Meghan was always in the limelight, it was probably that much harder and exhausting. We’re glad she’s on a better path now, and appreciate her open honestly!
