Fashion Website Confirms that Meghan Markle’s Maternity Wardrobe Cost 7 Times as Much as Kate Middleton’s

Whether you like her or not, Meghan Markle has become a style maven in the eyes of many fashionistas, and her maternity wardrobe is no exception. Media outlets have analyzed the cost of the duchess’s duds during pregnancy, and of course it’s not on Walmart level.

It’s been calculated that since her pregnancy went public last October, the Meghan’s outfits cost $630,000. As is customary for this set of royal family members, her wardrobe expenses ( and staff and official visits) are covered by Prince Charles. That means taxpayers are not footing the bill.

Some of the looks she’s rocked include a $35 maternity dress from H&M and a custom Oscar de la Renta gown that she wore to an awards gala that cost $13,200. According to the math, her so-far total is 7 times more than the Duchess of Cambridge’s pregnancy clothes for Prince Louis.

Admirers of Markle and Duchess Kate often wind up wanting to copy the looks and clean out retailers’ cache of the dresses, shoes, and outerwear that the women are often seen wearing.

Since Meghan Markle joined the royal family, fashion experts have acknowledged what they call “The Markle Effect” which helps to spread brand awareness – among other things. Like Kate Middleton, she is often viewed as an influencer.

Royal watchers, who include experts, detractors, and fans, note that Meghan’s pricey maternity wardrobe is working two ways. Her fashion choices are increasing sales but also has some questioning the extravagance of it all.

But who knows what she really wears behind closed doors? She could be rocking Old Navy’s finest maternity sweats or Givenchy blouses. If you want to keep up with the price tags, check out how Love the Sales breaks it down. Watch this video to see the maternity looks of both duchesses!
