‘Jeopardy!’ Will Return for the First Time Without Alex Trebek in January
“Jeopardy” producers knew that Trebek wanted the show to continue once he was gone. In a news release, Mike Richards, the show’s executive director, explained, “Alex believed in the importance of ‘Jeopardy!’ and always said that he wanted the show to go on after him. We will honor Alex’s legacy by continuing to produce the game he loved with smart contestants and challenging clues. By bringing in familiar guest hosts for the foreseeable future, our goal is to create a sense of community and continuity for our viewers.”
“Jeopardy” has already put this plan into action by announcing the first in a series of guest hosts. Former contestant and “Greatest of All Time” winner Ken Jennings has already been in the studio filming new episodes as the first interim host.
Originally, “Jeopardy” announced that the last show with Trebek as the host would air on Christmas day, December 25th, but it seems that the plan has changed. Instead, during the last two weeks of the year, viewers can enjoy watching the 10 best “Jeopardy” episodes with Trebek as the host. It will be a trip down memory lane and a way of honoring the late host.
The final new episodes of “Jeopardy” with Trebek as the host will air in early January during the week of January 4th. When Trebek’s episodes are over, the new episodes with Jennings as the host will begin airing. The first episode with Jennings hosting is currently set to air on January 11, 2021.
There has been some controversy surrounding Jennings as a host after an old an insensitive tweet resurfaced on social media. Some people don’t like him, but many fans of the show are excited to see this very successful contestant try his hand at hosting.
We’re not sure how the show is going to decide which 10 episodes are the “best.” Which episodes do you hope they air the last two weeks of this year? Do you think Jennings will make a good host? Who do you think will host the show after Jennings?
