Insane Hailstorm Sweeps Through Florida and It Looks Like the Apocalypse

The brief time I lived in Florida provided me with a quick education in its temperamental weather. Sunny skies will swiftly become overcast, winds will whip you, and downpours can soak your legs in seconds.

Much like this video, you can also catch hail. Merritt Island and its nearby areas took a beating from lightning, rain, and hail Wednesday and Thursday, creating scenes that look like hurricanes. You can hear the crackling in the wind as hail and water clash in the atmosphere.

The National Weather Service issued severe thunderstorm warnings for the region and residents shot video of what’s been described as “ping pong ball-sized” or half-dollar sized hail. It’s damaged vehicles and homes. Below is footage shot by Piper Gilman and shared on Instagram.

Weather experts warned people to stay indoors and to bring their pets inside during the storm. Beaches and trees were also affected by the heavy damage. Drivers caught off guard by the hail storm were advised to pull over to avoid windshield visibility issues and damage to the vehicle’s glass.

Many Floridians were surprised to find large pieces of hail lining their streets and yards, but joked about using the ice for Starbuck drinks. Residents of Merritt Island, Cocoa Beach, Melbourne, Satellite Beach and surrounding areas were advised that the storm warning was in effect through part of Thursday.

Check out this footage of massive hail pieces dropping into a local swimming pool and be glad your spring break wasn’t ruined.
