Weatherman Nearly Gets Impaled While Covering Hurricane Michael

As we’ve seen over the past few weeks, weather can be a nasty, dangerous business. Hurricanes put lives and property at risk not only with water damage, but terribly high winds.

Jim Cantore, one of The Weather Channel’s most famous meteorologists, was in the thick of things while reporting on Hurricane Michael. Standing near the cost in Panama City Beach, Florida, he was doing a live report in the middle of heavy wind gusts and pouring rain.

Suddenly, a 2 x4 wooden slat flew through air and almost clipped him. The weather vet ducked and ran out of its path just in the nick of time, taking cover near a pole. Viewers who witnessed the live scene were concerned for his safety.

Cantore is known for working through dangerous conditions, but the audience was relieved that he didn’t get impaled on television – or at all. Hurricane Michael made landfall as a Category 4 storm with winds up to 155 miles per hour, making it one of the most intense for the Florida Panhandle region and parts of Georgia.

It’s caused flooding, downed trees, blackouts, and property damage throughout the area. So far, there has been one fatality, and some counties have issued curfews to curtail any issues that may arise because of blackouts.

Although this was not Cantore’s first brush with wild or deadly circumstances, he’s been doing this job for over thirty years and is considered legendary by the public. And no, he’s not the same guy who faked it during Hurricane Florence. To see the harrowing moment on video, click on this short clip.

Did you see this happen live? Were you worried for his safety? What do think of Cantore’s rep in the weather world?
