Here’s How Prince Harry and Prince William Will Honor Princess Diana’s Legacy On Her 60th Birthday
July 1 is Princess Diana’s birthday—so let us be the first to say happy birthday to the late Princess of Wales!
Princess Diana was the first wife of Charles, Prince of Wales, and mother of Prince William and Prince Harry. When she died in a tragic car accident in 1997, the entire world was devastated—but no one more than her two sons, who were just 15 and 12 at the time. She was just 36 years old at the time—the same age William is now.
Flash forward 24 years later, and Prince William and Prince Harry aren’t on the best of terms at the moment. Prince William is pretty ticked at Prince Harry for taking a step back from the royal family, and is certainly not thrilled about how he handled an interview with Oprah Winfrey, where he called him out on certain things.
But alas, as brothers, as blood, the two are putting aside their differences for the day to honor their mother on what would have been her 60th birthday. The event, held July 1, 2021, will be William and Harry’s first appearance together since April, when they attended the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral.
During the celebration of Princess Diana’s life, the two plan to unveil a statue of Princess Diana, commissioned by the brothers back in 2017. The statue will stand in Kensington Palace’s Sunken Garden for years to come to honor their mother’s legacy for years to come.
Rumor has it that the Sunken Garden was one of Princess Diana’s favorite spots. The garden has recently been redesigned, with the addition of more than 4,000 flowers planted and over 1,000 hours of labor. A statue of Diana is the perfect addition.
The unveiling event will be a “small event and a very personal moment for the family,” with mostly just close family members in attendance.
The statue is the second tribute to the late princess in London. In 2004, a 689-foot long fountain was unveiled in Hyde Park to honor her as well.
