As the funeral for Prince Philip, which will take place on April 17 at Windsor Castle, draws near, there are a lot of decisions that need to be made.

While the guest list has already been decided (an intimate gathering with only members of the royal family—about 30 people), the question of what they would wear had gotten brought up.

While most senior members of the royal family usually don military uniforms to events like these, Philip’s wife Queen Elizabeth has decided that no royals will need to wear those thing time.

Several members of the royal family have actively participated in the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force, plus the Duke of Edinburgh himself served in the Royal Navy for 12 years, including during World War II—so this is quite the surprising break from royal tradition to have wear their uniforms. Instead, guests of the royal family will don regular civilian dresses to the funeral.

What’s the reason for this unexpected dress code? It’s so that Prince Harry would be able to feel included. You see, the Duke of Sussex Prince lost his military titles—despite having served in the British Army for a decade, including twice in Afghanistan— after he and wife Meghan Markle took a step back from their royal duties last year. If the dress code wasn’t implemented, he would’ve been the only senior royal not wearing a uniform.
