Recently Elliot Page sat down for his first televised interview since announcing his transition to a transgender man. The interview with Oprah Winfrey will be streaming on Apple TV+ starting April 30, 2021. It will be part of a series called “The Oprah Conversation.”

Page told Vanity Fair, “I knew I was a boy when I was a toddler. I was writing fake love letters and signing them ‘Jason.’ Every little aspect of my life, that is who I was, who I am, and who I knew myself to be.”

In an interview with TIME magazine Page explained that at just 9 years old, he got a short haircut and said, “I felt like a boy. I wanted to be a boy. I would ask my mom if I could be someday.”

In 2014, Page announced that he was gay. Then, he married Emma Portner in 2018. Even though Page had come out as gay, he still felt uncomfortable in his own body. Portner and Page divorced earlier this year, but Page says that they remain friends.

In December 2020, Page announced to the world that he was no longer Ellen but now Elliot. Page has always liked the name Elliot. He explained to TIME, “I loved E.T. when I was a kid and always wanted to look like the boys in the movies, right?”

A name change wasn’t enough. Page didn’t just want a different name; he wanted to look like a boy instead of a girl. He has undergone top surgery and says, “It has completely transformed my life.”

In a sneak peak of the interview with Oprah, she asks Page, “What part of your transition has actually brought you the most joy?”

Page wipes away tears as he answers, “It’s being able to touch my chest and feel comfortable in my body for the- probably the first time.” Watch the video below to hear Page’s answer for yourself and to learn more about his interview with Oprah.
