Elliot Page Shares a Heartfelt Message of Thanks for Outpouring of Support

Ellen Page stole our hearts as Juno MacGuff in the movie “Juno.” However, if you look up “Ellen Page” on IMDB you will find that you’re rerouted to a filmography for Elliot Page. What gives?

On December 1, 2020, Elliot Page posted a letter on his Instagram explaining “I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot.” He added, “I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey,” but went on to say, “My joy is real, but it is also fragile. The truth is, despite feeling profoundly happy right now and knowing how much privilege I carry, I am also scared. I am scared of the invasiveness, the “jokes” and of violence.”

More than 3 million people have liked Page’s post, and the comments were overwhelmingly supportive.

Almost 3 weeks later, on December 20, Page posted again. This time he included a photo and simply wrote a short message from the heart. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Your love and support has been the greatest gift.Stay safe. Be there for each other.”

Once again, the outpouring for support and love for Page has been overwhelmingly positive. Just one day later, Page’s post has already been liked about 1.7 million times. One important person who is standing by page, is his wife, Emma Portner, who wrote, “I am so proud of @elliotpage. Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world.”

This isn’t the first time Page has had surprising news for fans. His announcement that he married Portner also came as a surprise and that announcement also took place on Instagram. The couple got married on January 3, 2018, and Page posted the announcement on Instagram the same day, writing, “Can’t believe I get to call this extraordinary woman my wife.”

Instagram has been quite an important part of Page and Portner’s relationship. They actually first met through the social media platform. Portner is a Canadian ballerina and choreographer. Portner’s dance videos caught Page’s attention. At the time, he identified as a woman and a lesbian, and in 2018 he told The New York Style Magazine, “I just thought how talented and cool she was. At that time I already knew we were creative spirits.”

Are you surprised about Page’s recent announcement? Did you know he met Portner on Instagram?
