Ellen DeGeneres Faces Backlash After Admitting She Drove Her Wife to the ER After Drinking 3 ‘Weed Drinks’
Certain medications and beverages come with a warning that you should not drive or operate machinery after consumption. This is for a very good reason. Some things that we take, even for health purposes, can make us tired or cause us to not react and respond the way we would normally. Ellen DeGeneres ignored the warnings and drove anyway.
Before we accuse DeGeneres of being completely out of her mind of driving when she admits, “It’s probably not safe,” let’s back up and explain what happened.
DeGeneres was recently a guest on Jimmy Kimmel’s show, and he asked her about her wife, Portia de Rossi. DeGeneres took the opportunity to talk about her wife’s appendectomy. She didn’t just explain about the pain her wife was in or the treatment she received at the hospital. Instead, the standout part of the story was the trip to the hospital.
DeGeneres told Kimmel that she completely dislikes marijuana; however, different people she knows have been trying to tell her which supplement to take in order to get health benefits. For example, her assistant had her try gummies. Then, Chelsea Handler suggested a canned beverage called Cann.
DeGeneres decided she try Cann before going to bed. She drank one can but “didn’t feel anything so I drank three, and then I took two melatonin sleep pills.” Okay. We can probably all agree that this was a combination that would mean most people would fall asleep or at least realize that they were not fit to drive.
Then, the unexpected happened. DeGeneres was about to go to sleep when she realized de Rossi wasn’t in bed. Instead, her wife was on the floor in pain. She knew something was wrong, and she knew she need to get her wife to the hospital.
Instead of thinking through the situation, DeGeneres simply acted. She said “adrenaline kicked in.” She drove her wife all by herself to the emergency room at the hospital. After admitting this on TV, DeGeneres probably realized she shouldn’t have told the world that she drove after drinking pot beverages and taking sleeping pills. She immediately said, “I shouldn’t be saying any of this.”
Kimmel joked, “Well, at least you’re headed to the emergency room.”

Social media users are criticizing DeGeneres for being entitled and privileged. They feel that it was completely irresponsible for her to risk the lives of others by getting behind the wheel of her car after drinking Cann and taking melatonin.
Do you think DeGeneres should have had someone else drive de Rossi to the hospital?
