If you were hoping that the new year was going to mean that everything suddenly went back to normal, you might already be waiting for 2022. Last week’s riot at the Capitol Building in Washington D.C. was not how we expected the new year to start.

While it shocked the nation that the mob was actually able to enter the Capitol Building, there were multiple heroic police officers who made the best of what could have been an even worse situation.

One Capitol police officer was captured on video by a Huffington Post reporter as he led the mob through the Capitol Building. While it might seem strange for a police officer to actually be leading the mob, his quick-thinking made a huge difference. Instead of the mob roaming wherever they wanted, he actually directed their path, and that meant that he was able to direct them away from the Senate Chamber which potentially saved many lives.

This brave man risked his life to save the lives of others. Some viewers explained that they saw this video last week but didn’t know that he was intentionally leading them away from the Senate Chamber and now they have even more respect for this officer.

One comment reads, “This officer is a hero. He put his own well-being on the line to draw people away from the Senate floor.”

The name of the officer has not been released, but we definitely agree that he is a hero.

Meanwhile, 6 people lost their lives in the attacks including 42-year-old officer Brian Sicknick and off-duty Capitol Police officer Howard Liebengood who showed up at the Capitol on his day off to offer assistance.

The man seen at the front of the mob is 41-year-old Doug Jensen, a resident of Iowa. He was arrested this past Saturday and was booked into Polk County Jail. He has been charged with 5 federal charges.
