Bernie Sanders Reacts to the Flood of Memes Spawned By His Chilly Inauguration Appearance
A picture of Sanders at the event shows him sitting in a chair looking not too happy. He’s wearing a coat and a casual-looking pair of mittens. This picture has gone viral and been turned into multiple memes.
Sanders went on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” and he told Meyers that he has definitely seen the memes. He explained, “I was just sitting there trying to keep warm, trying to pay attention to what was going on.” He never expected to get so much attention for his appearance, and it doesn’t sound like he was actually feeling grumpy at all. He was just cold.
The truth isn’t going to stop the internet from having fun with a great picture. Many people have used photoshop to place Sanders in many different locations. Here are a few fun examples.

Besides Sanders himself, the mittens he wore to the inauguration have also gotten quite a bit of attention. After all, those mittens are featured in every single meme as he sits there with his arms crossed.
It turns out that the now famous mittens were handmade by an elementary school teacher who lives in Vermont. She sent them to Sanders as a gift, and she was shocked and delighted when she learned that he wore them to the inauguration.
Sanders told Meyers that the woman who made the mittens “has been somewhat overwhelmed by the kind of attention that is being shown to her mittens.” She has received requests to make mittens for other people, but she is too busy to handle so much additional work besides being a mom and a teacher.
