Question: How much would you pay for a balloon arch? You know, a pretty display of balloons in an arch shape so that you can take pictures under it at an event?

Typically, something like this goes for around $20 on Amazon. Of course, you have to then spend your time blowing up the balloons and arranging them the way you like, which is no easy feat.

In fact, it’s so difficult that someone who arranges balloons in arches like this for a little charges hundreds of dollars to do it—$420 to be exact, for at least one of her designs.

The woman is Kelsey Onstott, who runs a Houston, Texas-based business called That Balloon Girl. She posted a video to her TikTok channel listing her price or one of her designs and the TIkTok world was not very happy about it. In fact, people were downright angry about it.

“$420 for that? You can buy one on Amazon for $20,” someone pointed out.

But Kelsey had some salty things to say back: “GROUNDBREAKING INFORMATION! Does amazon inflate everything and hang it for you too???”

People also made the point that other people in the business charge much less than she does. She still thinks her prices are fair and square, especially since none of her current clients have ever complained or tried to bargain her down.

“My clients don’t find my prices shocking, and I’ve sold so many of these mosaics. I’ve probably sold over 50 of them, and nobody bats an eye,” she said, who explained how she quit her corporate job to be in the balloon business full time.

She then challenged her followers, who all told her that they could totally buy everything they need for just a few bucks, to go make it themselves for a similar price, then.

“Custom color 5ft balloon mosaic $300 – if you can go to party city and spend $5 on balloons and replicate this please duet me- thanks,” she wrote, with a video of one of her creations.

When someone did it for under $50, she explained that her clients are not into doing anything DIY and what she’s really doing is saving them time—you know, by charging an arm and a leg.
