Beloved ‘Jeopardy’ Host Alex Trebek Opens Up About His Cancer Battle
A collective cloud of concern – and sadness – fell upon the world when Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek revealed his cancer diagnosis in March. His optimistic announcement included a vow to fight the disease and plans to remain on the show.
It’s been a minute since we’ve heard directly from Trebek, but he shared a recent health update during an appearance on Good Morning America. But first, viewers were given this good news: Trebek will be back to host the next season of Jeopardy!.
He is in wonderful spirits and told Robin Roberts that his oncologist says he is doing well. What he wasn’t exactly prepared for and sometimes struggles with are “deep bouts of sadness.” He is receiving chemo treatments for pancreatic cancer that sometimes take his strength but hopes that he’ll be able to recover while the show is on break.
“I just take it as it comes. It’s no big deal. I go in and I sit down. I joke with the nurses. And I’m there for an hour and a half while they inject all of this stuff into me and then I go home and I have a good day, and then the next day, for no reason that I can fathom, it turns south on me. But that’s okay. You have to deal with it. What am I going to do? It is something that I’m afflicted with. We are dealing with it chemically and spiritually and those are positives, and hopefully everything is going to turn out well, and I’ll be back on the air with original programming come this September.”
Trebek also stated that the well wishes, advice, and prayers from everyone is really helping him in his journey. He’s received an outpouring of support and love from people all over the world.
