The Internet Has Completely Fallen in Love With This 22-Pound Giant Cat

You’ve gotta love social media. Without it, we wouldn’t be able to see what our friends from high school (who live half-way across the country) are up to, we wouldn’t be able to share pictures of our food with the world, and cats wouldn’t become famous.

Yes, cats. If there’s anything social media has given us, it’s cat videos, cat memes, and well, just overwhelming cat cuteness.

Even if you’re not a cat person, we’re pretty sure you’ve seen at least one cat meme or video that has made you laugh. Perhaps one of these memes featured Instagram star Grumpy Cat.

While we’re still mourning the loss of Grumpy Cat and wiping away tears as we realize that there won’t be any new pictures of his signature grumpy face, we have discovered another cat that is taking Instagram by storm.

Lotus, a Maine Coon cat who lives in Sweden, is the antithesis of Grumpy Cat, at least in size. While Grumpy Cat was known for her grumpy expression, she was also an unusually small cat. Lotus, on the other hand, is an unusually large cat, even for the Maine Coon breed which is known for being rather large.

Lotus is originally from Norway, but she currently lives in Sweden with two other Maine Coon cats. She is 3 years old, and she weighs 22 pounds. That’s rather hefty for a cat. Yes, this cat is closer to the size of a dog. Add to that her thick, fluffy fur, and she’s one downright huge kitty.

Even though she is a large cat, her family says that she is very calm and gentle. Having owned Maine Coon cats ourselves, we can speak from experience that the breed certainly is loving and friendly, great for cuddling. Although, we’ve never owned a cat the size of Lotus.

Lotus and the other cats in her family are all indoor cats, but they enjoy spending time outdoors as well. Lotus also likes sleeping on the balcony and on the couch.

Over on Instagram, Lotus has quite the fan club. More than 245k followers enjoy seeing what she’s up to, especially on her outdoor adventures. She’s been seen doing everything from sporting a floral headband to enjoying an evening at the lake.
