It’s been how many weeks now since this quarantine started? We’re losing count, but that’s okay. What’s important is that we find ways to get our work done, keep our spirits up and keep our kids busy.
By now, you’ve probably heard your kids say “I’m bored” at least once. While we’ve already found 13 creative scavenger hunts to keep our kids busy, as the days and weeks at home go by, we find ourselves needing more and more ways to keep our little ones active. Can you relate?
No worries. There are literally endless ways to use items you already have at home to entertain your kids. Don’t believe us? It’s true. From takeout chopsticks and toilet paper rolls to play-doh and pom-poms, whatever you happen to have at home can be used in a fresh, fun way to provide hours of entertainment.
Watch this video from What’s Up Moms to see 12 ways you can use items you probably already have to create fun activities for your kids.
While there are a lot of fun activities mentioned in this video, the sky (or the roof) is truly the limit. You can consider this video a jumping off point to get creative with items you already have and it let your kids use their imagination. You might be surprised what they can do with a cardboard box and some toilet paper rolls!
If you want to try the activities in this What’s Up Moms video but don’t have certain items on hand, you can get creative with substitutions. For example, if you don’t have chopsticks to make paddles, maybe you have paint stirrers from a hardware store. Don’t have balloons? Maybe you have a beach ball or try inflating a rubber glove.
Now that your kids are busy, that will leave you a few minutes to make dinner. If you’re looking for some easy recipes they’ll actually eat, try this quesadilla recipe from Jamie Oliver (it features hidden vegetables) or this “Pasta Tina” recipe from Jimmy Kimmel. We’re glad these recipes are quick and easy, because, honestly, these kids activities look like a lot of fun, and we want to do them with our kids!
Do you think your kids would enjoy some of the indoor activities mentioned in this video? Which one are you going to try first? What objects would you use to create an obstacle course for your kids?
