Last Week’s Episode of Roseanne Was Extremely Emotional

If you’ve been keeping up with the new episodes of Roseanne, which premiered on April 1, you were probably enduring quite the sob fest after last week’s episode, when a slew of some pretty emotional events occurred.

And if you didn’t see it yet, beware of spoilers ahead! Stop reading right now!

Side note: if you’re not one of the over 18 million viewers who have been keeping up with this 1988 reboot, well, then, you’re missing out, and you better get to it (and grab the tissues while you’re at it!).

So: In this recent emotional episode, Becky Conner meets with her fertility doctor, and that’s when everything goes awry. The doctor reveals to Becky that she has a very slim chance of every getting pregnant—a 5 percent chance to be exact—which totally derails her dreams of being a surrogate mom (and earning $50,000 for doing so).

In case you forgot, Becky had lied to the doctor about her age—telling her she was only 33 years old. While the doctor doesn’t call her out for lying, she tells her that her eggs look more like those of an older woman, and then proceeds with the heartbreaking pregnancy news.

Before the doctor appointment, Becky and her mom, Roseanne, got into a huge fight after Roseanne refused to accompany her to the doctor’s appointment (she was not pleased about Becky wanting to willingly giving away her own child she grew).

Aunt Jackie is the one who inevitably tells Roseanne the bad news, and when Becky comes home, she assume Roseanne is going to scold her. She obviously can’t handle that and storms out. Roseanne is dejected—she realizes she really needs to be there for her daughter. Becky does what most people in this situation might do—goes to a bar and drunkenly texts her sister, Darlene, who meets her there.

After some sisterly arguing, Becky admits to Darlene that she and her late husband Mark (who late actor, Glenn Quinn, played on the original series, who died in 2002) were planning on having kids—a total shock to Darlene.

Becky goes on to talk about how she always thought she had enough time, but when Mark died, she found herself not being able to meet anyone else she wanted to bear a child with. And now everything is making sense. And we can’t stop crying.

Roseanne then shows up and Becky opens up to her as well too. Roseanne reminds Becky that she herself was able to get pregnant in her 40s, so you never know what could happen (potential foreshadow for a future episode?). But wait—there’s more. The episode ends with a heartwarming tribute to Glenn Quinn. All. The. Feels. (The show is just not the same without him!)

From the realness of infertility to watching Becky and Darlene’s more grown-up bond, to the mother-daughter fights and makeups, we can’t wait to see how this season continues. But we really hope there’s some happy endings in here because we just can’t deal with all the motions! Here’s the clip where Becky shares her exciting news about being a surrogate—and of course some humor from Roseanne:
