Organize AND Decorate With DIY Jewelry Frame

Some of the most beautiful things we own are jewelry, but if we’re not actively wearing them, they spend most of their lives shut away in drawers, often in a disorganized tangle. Why not let them shine and organize them at the same time with this brilliant idea from Marty’s Musings? This weekend project will add a unique, shimmering sense of order to your bedroom.

You’ll Need:

– Frame of your choice
– Gold and silver paint (Marty’s Musings used Modern Masters Gold Rush Semi-Opaque ME658 and Warm Silver Opaque ME221)
– Foam craft brush
– Chicken wire, 1/2-inch by 1/2-inch squares, 36-inch roll
– Two 1-inch-by-2-inch wooden pieces
– Tin shears, wire cutter or cut-off wheel (Marty’s Musings recommends the wheel)
– Staple gun and 3/8-inch staples
– Picture wire

How To:

  1. Find a frame you love – this project works especially well with an ornate vintage look – and paint it a burnished gold. Use the foam brush to apply a coat of gold paint, followed by a coat of silver. Let dry completely.

  2. Use your tin shears, wire cutter or cut-off wheel to cut the chicken wire to fit your frame. Leave about a 1-inch (2 rows of wire) overhang around the perimeter of the frame.
  3. Attach the wire to the frame using the staple gun. Pull the wire tight, and staple at intervals and across corners to avoid ripples.

  5. Lay the frame face down on a towel or other clean, safe surface. Pop each staple once or twice with a hammer to drive them a little further in and really secure the wire.
  6. Screw the wooden pieces over the chicken wire at the top and bottom of the frame. This step creates the gap necessary for earrings and other jewelry to hang correctly without touching the wall. If you like, you can add extra wooden pieces on each side of the frame, as well.

  7. Attach the picture wire to the top wooden backer and the chicken wire along the top of the frame.

  8. Hang and organize your jewelry!

There’s nothing better than a project that adds organization and beauty to a room. I’m definitely going to be trying this one! Will you? What are some of your favorite organizational ideas that are also pleasing to the eye?
