‘McDonald’s of the Philippines’ Is Taking Over America with ‘Aggressive’ Expansion

Let’s face it, there isn’t any fast food chain that can rival America’s McDonald’s. Not Burger King, not Wendy’s, not any fast food joint. Well, except maybe it’s equivalent from another country.

While Micky D’s is arguably the most loved fast food chain in America, it might be facing some tough competition with one new joint that’s crossing borders. It’s called Jollibee, and it’s often referred to as the “McDonald’s of the Philippines.”http://tiphero.com/most-expensive-hotel-room-in-america/

While Jollibee doesn’t sell Big Mac’s or Fish Fillet sandwiches, it does serve up plenty of delicious Filipino fast-food specialties. They’re actually known for a pretty popular signature dish—the “Chickenjoy,” a piece of fried chicken with a side of spaghetti in tomato sauce, topped with hotdog slices and ground beef. Meat lovers, where you at?

“Jollibee has always been a taste of home for many Filipinos,” said Maribeth Dela Cruz, Jollibee Food Corporation North America’s vice president. “It’s not just the products they used to enjoy when they were back home. It’s really the experience of bringing them back to happy memories of being with their family and celebrating moments and milestones in their lives back in the Philippines.”

If you’re both a McDonald’s and Philippine food lover, you’re in luck. While they already have nearly 1,300 locations globally, Jollibee is now planning to “aggressively expand”—yes, that’s the term used—across the United States.

In fact, they’ve already started with its first located, which opened on October 27, 2018 in Manhattan, New York. In the works since 2016, the newly opened location has been booming—which perhaps has something to do with the area’s large Philippine population.

Jollibee doesn’t plan to stop in just New York. Other Jollibee locations in the states so far include California, Nevada, and Texas, all of which also has a high Philippine population, and they have plan to—here’s the term again—“aggressively expand” in America.

While we don’t know exactly how many Jollibee locations will be coming here, the term “aggressive expansion” has us pretty excited. Maybe they plan to put one in every single state? Who knows, but our mouths are still salivating from the chicken spaghetti description a few paragraphs ago. You know yours is too.

Jollibee is owned by Jollibee Foods Corporation, which has also been taking it up a notch already in terms of their expansions. In fact, their goal is to make the list of the top five biggest restaurant companies in the entire world.

Besides Jollibee, they also own many popular chains such as Greenwich Pizza, Chowking, and even was previously the franchisee for Burger King in the Philippines. Additionally, they own part of Smashburger and plan to increase their share this year, in addition to acquiring stakes sin other top brands. They’re making ALL the moves.

We’re all for expanding restaurants that serve new and exciting foods. And whether you grew up eating Philippine food or you just want to try something new, Jollibee is a place everyone can enjoy. We can’t wait to see how many locations start popping up.

Have you ever heard of Jollibee? Would you eat there if a location came to your area? What are your thoughts on their signature “Chickenjoy” meal?
