Make a Sweet Snack with Doughnut Chips

When we have a craving for something salt, we turn to chips, so why not do the same when that craving turns toward something sweet? It might sound a little crazy, but PureWow proves it’s not with this recipe for Doughnut Chips. This simple method transforms breakfast pastries into an afternoon snack.

You’ll Need:

– 1 cup granulated sugar
– 1 tablespoon cinnamon
– 12 leftover plain, glazed and/or cake doughnuts (nothing with a thick frosting)

How To:

  1. Preheat a waffle iron on high.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the sugar with the cinnamon to combine.
  3. Cut each of the doughnuts in half.
  4. Working in batches, place 2 or 3 halved doughnuts in the waffle iron and press firmly to close. Cook for 30 to 45 seconds.
  5. Remove the doughnuts from the waffle iron and transfer to a large plate.
  6. Press a heavy skillet on top of the waffled doughnuts for 5 to 10 seconds.
  7. Transfer the chips to the cinnamon sugar and toss to coat. The doughnuts will get crispy as they cool.
  8. Repeat with the remaining doughnuts. Cool completely before serving.

What an interesting idea! I never would have thought to make sweet chips, much less ones out of doughnuts. What about you? Have you ever had sweet chips before? Do you think you’ll be transforming your doughnuts?
