Thanksgiving may be the last thing on your mind right now as we enjoy the last few weeks of summer, but if you want to save some money come turkey time, now is the time to take some action. Travel company Hipmunk analyzed travel data from the past few years and discovered some interesting findings. The secret to saving $200 on Thanksgiving travel? Book your flights early and book your hotels late.

On average, people who booked Thanksgiving flights on the week before Labor Day spent significantly less than those who booked in October and November. Check it out:

However, for those travelers who also need a place to stay when they travel, the best thing to do is procrastinate. Wait to reserve your hotel until November to score the best deal:

To save even more this Thanksgiving, however, it pays to procrastinate on hotel reservations. Last year, those who booked in August spent an average of $177. Procrastinators who waited to reserve their hotels in November saved nearly $50 and spent an average of $131.
